Installing
Open the installer you downloaded and follow its steps. Dot & Dash goes into Applications and opens by itself when it is done. It needs macOS 14 or later, and runs on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
The free trial
Everything works for 24 hours from the first launch. After that, Learn, Write, Transcribe, Type Anywhere, the Library, paddles and every finish but Silver wait for a licence. The machine, the reference and sharing the tape as an image stay free, and your progress and Library are kept.
Activating your licence
- Find your licence key in the receipt email from Dodo Payments.
- In Dot & Dash, choose Settings, then Licence.
- Paste the key and click Activate.
After buying, the thank-you page can also open Dot & Dash and enter the key for you. No email after ten minutes? Check your spam folder, then write to us with the email you paid with.
Using it on another Mac
One licence covers up to 3 Macs: enter the same key on each one. To move it, open Settings, then Licence on the Mac you are leaving, click Deactivate This Mac, then activate on the new one. Lost the key? Write to us from the address you bought with.
Keying
- Hold Space or press the knob on the machine. A tap is a dit, a hold is a dah.
- Settings changes the key, the speed (5 to 40 WPM, with Farnsworth spacing), the sidetone’s pitch and volume, and switches to paddles in iambic mode A or B.
- A USB Morse key or keyer that types a keyboard key works too: choose that key in Settings.
Type Anywhere
Switch it on from the Dot & Dash item in the menu bar. The first time, Dot & Dash asks for Accessibility permission and shows where to give it in System Settings. Then hold Right Option, or the key you chose, to key Morse into the app in front. If nothing is typed, check that Dot & Dash is allowed in System Settings, Privacy & Security, under Accessibility, and under Input Monitoring if Dot & Dash says so.
Updates
Dot & Dash looks for updates once a day. When a new version is ready, choose Install Update in the Dot & Dash menu. Updates are signed and checked before they install, and they come with your licence. You can switch the daily check off in Settings, General.
Refunds
If Dot & Dash is not for you, see our refund policy and write to hey@everydaymactools.com with the email you paid with.
Privacy
Dot & Dash works offline and sends nothing about you. The details are on the privacy page.
