What you key stays on your Mac.
Dot & Dash works offline. It collects nothing about you and sends nothing about you anywhere. Here is what it keeps, the two things it sends, and what this website does.
What stays on your Mac
- Your settings, your progress in Learn, your Library and your drafts, in the app’s own folder and its preferences on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded or synced.
- Your licence key, in your Mac’s keychain. The trial’s start, in the keychain and in the app’s preferences.
- The tape images, audio and videos you share are made on your Mac, and go only where you send them.
There are no analytics, no advertising and no tracking in the app.
What goes online, and only this
- Licence checks, to Dodo Payments, our merchant of record: your licence key, with a name for this Mac when you activate it (its model and four random characters, never your computer’s name), so one key can count its 3 Macs. Later checks send the key and the number Dodo gave this Mac.
- Update checks, to everydaymactools.com, about once a day: Dot & Dash asks for the list of versions. Updates download only from everydaymactools.com and are checked before they install. You can switch the check off in Settings.
Buying opens the checkout in your browser.
Type Anywhere
Type Anywhere needs Accessibility permission, which Dot & Dash asks for the first time you switch it on. It listens for the key you chose for Morse, and notices when you type or click yourself, so it never deletes your own words. It never records, keeps or sends what you type, and it pauses while a password field is active.
This website
This site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to count visits and see which pages people read. It knows nothing about what you do in Dot & Dash, and the app does not use it.
The machine on the home page runs in your browser. What you key there is drawn and decoded on the page and never sent anywhere. Its sound is made in your browser too, only after you press.
Checkout happens on Dodo Payments, who handle your payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address and the order, so we can send your licence key and help if something goes wrong.
